PLP Group is a digitally driven business that uses technology and the power of people to deliver loyalty, benefit and reward solutions.

The challenge

The business had a basic intranet site with limited functionality. They wanted a new employee portal that would serve as a centralised hub for internal communication, training, collaboration and information sharing, to promote efficiency, productivity and knowledge sharing among employees.

A key requirement was that the site must introduce an element of fun and excitement to engage with users from the moment they land on the site. In addition, it needed to appeal to various employee segments within PLP Group, from contact centre staff to executives and remote employees working internationally.

The solution

PLP Group’s employee engagement programme, Fantastic Force, is based on a Marvel superhero theme. The intranet site was conceptualised and developed to align and support this theme.

The new “PLP Universe” intranet provides access to “worlds of services” as well as to a central information hub. The home page directs visitors to their services and benefits, which were named to align with the superhero theme. Fantasticor is the employee rewards programme, Develapor is the training and development portal, Beneficia houses employee benefits, Selflessia is where the company’s CSI initiatives are shared, and Judionia provides access to Hey Jude, the company’s complimentary digital assistant app.

Security is a critical aspect and measures were implemented to ensure that only authorised employees could access the network. In addition, specific information and features within the intranet site had to be restricted, based on user roles and permissions. The intranet was customised across regions and is easily accessible for all staff working from PLP Group’s various office locations or remotely.

The result

In a corporate landscape often characterised by mundane intranet platforms, the PLP Universe intranet stands out because of its innovative approach to integrating a superhero theme combined with outstanding functionality, navigation and content. By infusing elements of fantasy and excitement, it breaks the mould and effectively transforms the work environment into an engaging and exciting space where employees can be informed, engaged and rewarded.
